When we first visited The Dental Anesthesia Center, my child was experiencing severe tooth pain and multiple cavities. Dr. Sean M. Thoms and his team demonstrated excellent care, promptly assessing the situation and deciding to treat his teeth the next day. They came early in the morning, professionally addressing the cavities and placing a crown. They also followed up by phone to ensure my child was doing well. My baby is now pain-free,happy ,smiling, and sleeping soundly. This is truly a world-class dental center with an exceptional, caring team. Highly recommended.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about The Dental Anesthesia Center and Dr. Thoms. My 7-year-old, who has autism, recently had dental work done here and the experience exceeded expectations. The staff was incredibly kind, patient, and understanding of his needs. They took the time to make him and us feel comfortable, never rushed, and explained everything. I am so grateful for this office and the team that made my son's dental care possible. I would recommend The Dental Anesthesia Center and Dr Thoms to any parent, especially those with children who have special needs. They truly go above and beyond. ❤️
Response from the owner:Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and kind words! We’re truly grateful for your trust in our team and Dr. Thoms. Knowing your visit was a positive and comfortable experience means the world to us — it’s exactly what we strive for with every patient and family. 💙
Very patient with elderly patients. Very good experience.
Response from the owner:Thank you for sharing your feedback! We’re pleased to know the visit was a positive experience.
My son has been a patient of Dr Michael Hoffman since he was 5 years old. He is now 21 years old. My son has diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder and therefore I am cautious of who I select as a treatment provider. Dr. Hoffman’s office is professional, kind and I know they have his best interest at heart. I highly recommend Dr. Hoffman and staff to anyone seeking dental care.
Response from the owner:Thank you for your kind words and recommendation! We truly appreciate your trust in our team over the years.

Why People Avoid the Dentist Due to Embarrassment

There are many personal, emotional, and even traumatic reasons why people avoid the dental chair. Some of the most common include:

  • Haven’t seen a dentist in years and feel ashamed of the condition of your teeth.
  • Fear of being judged or lectured about their oral hygiene.
  • Dental anxiety or past traumatic experiences with dental providers.
  • Sensitive gag reflex, medical conditions, or special needs that make dental visits more complicated.
  • Embarrassment about bad breath, tooth decay, or missing teeth.

These feelings are very real—and incredibly common. But avoiding care only allows problems to worsen, making future appointments even more stressful. That’s why we approach every patient with empathy, privacy, and respect.

You Deserve Judgment-Free Dental Care

At The Dental Anesthesia Center, we don’t just clean teeth—we care for people. Our mission is to make dentistry accessible, especially for those who’ve had negative experiences or special concerns.

Here’s how we help you overcome embarrassment and reclaim your health:

  • Private, quiet treatment rooms designed for comfort.
  • One-on-one consultations where you can share your concerns without pressure.
  • Gentle, respectful communication—we meet you where you are.
  • Customized treatment plans tailored to your comfort and goals.

How Sedation Dentistry Can Ease the Fear and Shame

If dental anxiety or shame has kept you from getting the care you need, sedation dentistry may be the solution. As St. Louis’ trusted leader in sedation and sleep dentistry, we offer options that make your visit completely stress-free:

  • Oral Sedation
    • A safe, prescription medication you take before your appointment to help you relax and feel at ease.
  • IV Sedation
    • Stronger sedation that allows you to remain responsive but calm, with little memory of the procedure.
  • General Anesthesia
    • For patients with severe dental phobias, special needs, or complex cases, we offer complete anesthesia administered by our in-house anesthesiologist.

These techniques enable us to complete multiple treatments in a single visit, allowing you to make significant progress without the need for numerous appointments.

You’re Not Alone—And You’re Not “Too Far Gone”

We’ve helped thousands of patients who once believed their dental problems were “too bad to fix.” Many told us they felt hopeless—until they walked through our doors. You don’t have to fix everything at once. You need to take the first step.

Whether you need a gentle cleaning, full mouth rehabilitation, or just someone to listen—we’re here for you.
